Hello! Jaelyn Dotson is a 3+1 student at Quinnipiac University pursuing a degree in Graphic Design and Film. If you’re like her and were initially confused by what a 3+1 program is, she was too. To briefly explain, it’s an accelerated program allowing students to earn their bachelor’s degree in three years and their master’s in the fourth year. She was able to declare a double major in Graphic Design after her first semester, no better decision she could’ve made.

Ever since she was young, Jaelyn has loved making things look pretty and felt out of place in the STEM high school she attended. As she didn’t find what she needed in high school, she sought out “making things look pretty” through tasks like designing phone layouts and video editing on apps like VideoStar.

As an indecisive high school senior, Jaelyn decided video editing was her life passion and chose to attend school for film, not realizing her passion for design was greater. Especially her love for motion graphics and kinetic typography, or animated lyric videos on YouTube.

As for why she chose interactive media and communications, it seemed the master’s equivalent of the Graphic Design program. Frankly, she didn’t want more film classes and believed this would teach her more about design.

As she progresses in her educational and lifelong career, Jaelyn aspires to be a Director of Marketing for an international beauty company like Rom&nd, InnisFree, or Espoir. One day she hopes to market toward global audiences. Until then, she’ll keep working hard and doing her best.
